OmniSpear, Inc. Team Building Fun

There is no better way to bond with fellow employees than practicing your shooting skills together. A few weeks ago, OmniSpear decided to host a company airsoft shooting competition for a prize of $100. The rules were simple, each person had 5 shots and whoever scored the highest points on their respective targets won. Luckily for Steve Gillson, he managed to score 45 points and took home the prize!

Why Magento eCommerce Rocks

It has always been a challenge for our team to find an e-commerce solution that was flexible enough to meet our client’s needs. Most of the time we ended up with custom code intermixed with a canned shopping cart solution, not the best approach for code maintainability.

Magento eCommerce has solved this problem by TRUELY separating the front-end from the code. So CSS freaks dig in … The team behind Magento has put a lot of time into developing an intelligent system that can deliver results amongst a variety of different store configurations. Multiple language support, Multiple stores, Smart browsing via layered navigation, RSS product feeds, tagging and reviewing products, comparing products, product wish lists…. even Product Image Zoom is standard right out of the box.

Very Impressive – check it out at www.magentocommerce.com

iPhone Update 3.0 Download Finally Here!

I love my iPhone, it’s a gadget that I can honestly say saves me time. Being a converted BlackBerry user, there’s a few things that I have missed though. The first of which is having the ability to Cut, Copy & Paste. While this seemed like a no-brainer function to have, up until this release it was impossible to do. The other limitation that drives me crazy about the current 2.0 software version is the inability to attach photos, video and contact info to SMS messages, another thing that the BlackBerry did very well.

Software Update 3.0

Software Update 3.0

In typical Apple fashion, almost all of the shortcomings of the current iPhone software will be addressed in the new 3.0 software update, which will be available for download starting tomorrow June 17th. The update will be free for iPhone users, iTouch users will have to pay a one-time fee of around 10 bucks. Here are the highlights of the new 3.0 software release:

- Copy & Paste Support (finally!)
- Landscape Keyboard option when texting
- Photo, Video, Contact support for SMS texting
- Centralized search capability
- Record Voice Memos
- Improved Calendar with CalDAV support
- Buy movies, TV shows and Audiobooks from device
- Enhanced Stock Application
- Peer to Peer app support for gaming, etc.
- A bunch of other things

Here’s a complete list of 3.0 enhancements from Apple’s website

The primary thing that I don’t like about the upgrade is that they’re not offering Internet Tethering support in the US. This would allow you to hook your iPhone to your Laptop to browse the Internet. I’m sure that has something to do with the AT&T monopoly. I’m sure a not so legal workaround to this limitation will appear within time :-)

How to Download the 3.0 Update (available 6/17):

1. Simply open up iTunes with your iPhone / iTouch attached.
2. Click on your device under the “Devices” left-hand menu.
3. Click the “Check for Update” button and follow the steps.
