Xobni plugin for Outlook makes email management a breeze

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

If you’re like me, the size of your Outlook data files are massive. The standard MS Outlook search is slow and not as user friendly as it could be.

My co-worker recently told me about Xobni, a MS Outlook plugin that speeds up search and a whole lot more. Best of all, it’s free for the basic version. Basic version features include:

- Lighting-Fast Search
- Find Attachments with Ease
- Threaded Conversations
- LinkedIn and Facebook integration
- Recent Conversations
- Email Analytics

The plugin interface is well designed and works as advertised and has saved me a ton of time already. Give it a shot.

iPhone OS 3.0 update due at 1pm ET

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

If you’ve been tethered to your Mac since midnight, obsessively pressing the “Check for Update” button in iTunes, you can give it a rest. At least for a few hours. Engadget has deduced that today’s iPhone 3.0 update won’t get pushed out until around 1pm ET.

iPhone Update 3.0 Download Finally Here!

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

I love my iPhone, it’s a gadget that I can honestly say saves me time. Being a converted BlackBerry user, there’s a few things that I have missed though. The first of which is having the ability to Cut, Copy & Paste. While this seemed like a no-brainer function to have, up until this release it was impossible to do. The other limitation that drives me crazy about the current 2.0 software version is the inability to attach photos, video and contact info to SMS messages, another thing that the BlackBerry did very well.

Software Update 3.0

Software Update 3.0

In typical Apple fashion, almost all of the shortcomings of the current iPhone software will be addressed in the new 3.0 software update, which will be available for download starting tomorrow June 17th. The update will be free for iPhone users, iTouch users will have to pay a one-time fee of around 10 bucks. Here are the highlights of the new 3.0 software release:

- Copy & Paste Support (finally!)
- Landscape Keyboard option when texting
- Photo, Video, Contact support for SMS texting
- Centralized search capability
- Record Voice Memos
- Improved Calendar with CalDAV support
- Buy movies, TV shows and Audiobooks from device
- Enhanced Stock Application
- Peer to Peer app support for gaming, etc.
- A bunch of other things

Here’s a complete list of 3.0 enhancements from Apple’s website

The primary thing that I don’t like about the upgrade is that they’re not offering Internet Tethering support in the US. This would allow you to hook your iPhone to your Laptop to browse the Internet. I’m sure that has something to do with the AT&T monopoly. I’m sure a not so legal workaround to this limitation will appear within time :-)

How to Download the 3.0 Update (available 6/17):

1. Simply open up iTunes with your iPhone / iTouch attached.
2. Click on your device under the “Devices” left-hand menu.
3. Click the “Check for Update” button and follow the steps.
